The Wonderful World of Marvel

When Marvel Studios announced that they would be creating their own "limited" series for Disney Plus, none of us really had any idea what this could be, or would be.  Now after experiencing the full run of WandaVision and half of Falcon and the Winter Soldier we have a better idea of what Marvel Studios is going to bring us.

Even more amazing stories!

They are not only going to give us the level of story telling that we have come to expect with the theatrical releases, but they have more time to slowing the narrative down and tell us more.  In WandaVision we got to experience more of Wanda's past and her relationship to older American sitcoms, as well as the moment of her and her brother sitting there waiting for a bomb to go off.

In Falcon and the Winter Soldier we get to see how Buck is trying to work through his past and right some of the wrongs he unwillingly preformed.  Not to be out done with Sam's storyline of meeting his sister and her family and what she has had to go through for the 5 years that half the population (including Sam) disappeared thanks to Thanos.

The MCU is getting bigger right on our own screens thank to Disney Plus.  And with this format the writers get to show us more about why we love these characters so much.  They are not limited to the 3 hour or less restriction that a theatrical release holds them to.  There is still the need for the action (it is a comic book story after all) but there is more time to explore relationships and character arcs that we didn't have the ability to before.  Not because they didn't want to or know how to,  just look at the thousands of comics Marvel has published throughout a majority of the 20th and all of the 21st centuries.  The constraints of modern cinema does not allow for this in the current acceptable formats for this genre.

Enter Disney Plus.

Sure Marvel has put out different television shows in the past, but that was under Marvel Television (see January 15, 2021's blog post).  But now it is all under the control of Marvel Studios, it is all connected.  WandaVision, Flacon and the Winter Soldier, and Loki are just the beginning.  In just one and a half series we already have been introduced to new characters and situations we already know that will effect and carry over into up coming movies that have yet to be released or even made.  Soon we will be introduced to characters that we might have read about in the comic books, but will make their live debut on Disney Plus and may even be worked into the movies as well.

We also get to see the effects of the movies on other parts of the world and more "real world" scenarios playout and give more justified time.

On a whole you can put me in the impressed group who sees what Marvel is doing now on Disney Plus, and I cannot wait to see what they will give us next.
